A self-assessment

How does your team disagree?

Six statements about how your leadership team actually talks. There is no score and no sign-up, and nothing is sent anywhere. Answer honestly and you will get back the areas worth a conversation, and a question to take into your next meeting. It takes about three minutes.

01 · Psychological safety When someone on this team is uncertain, or has got something wrong, they say so out loud.
02 · Listening as a discipline In our meetings, people build on each other’s points rather than waiting for their turn to talk.
03 · Designing the conversation Before a hard conversation, we think about where and how it should happen, not only what to say.
04 · Receiving challenge When challenged, people here get curious rather than defensive.
05 · Holding to what we agreed What we agree in the room is reliably what happens afterwards.
06 · Disagreement as ordinary Disagreement here is ordinary rather than an event.

Where the conversation is

This assessment draws on Leading Powerful Dialogue, a programme run with school leadership teams across a year. If any of it landed, the next step is a conversation rather than a form.
